The Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued notice to all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country to block access to 39 VoIP service provider websites with immediate effect. The decision was taken for alleged violation of rules and regulations by these websites.
According to the DoT, the above VoIP service provider websites did not follow the norms and regulations prescribed in the country, while offering VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services to the customers.
A large number of customers in India use Internet Telephony services from foreign companies. Those VoIP operators don’t have license to operate on Indian network. They not only pose a security threat to the country, but also result in heavy losses to the government.
