Members of Hungarian ultra-radical organization Jobbik Magyarországért Mozgalom stated repeatedly in the same way like a President of Czech Republic M. Zeman that Eastern Ukrainian conflict is the war of one bandits against other. Authorized member of this party have supported annexation of Crimea by Russian Federation. They declared that Crimea is a Russian territory, Transcarpathia is a Magyar territory and describe Ukraine as a artificial state in Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Negative reaction of the most present delegates for this demarche is an evidence of split among the European parliamentarians. It is clear that Russia is finding for allies among European political parties and associations. However, the present day European allies of Russia are marginalized and ultra-radical persons and parties. “Jobbik” party is fighting for national rights and traditional values of Hungarian people, economical independence of Hungary. Prominent party members are using anti-Semitic and anti-Roma rhetoric, also they call to return territories lost after adoption of Treaty of Trianon. Representatives of this party have demanded repeatedly to create Autonomous Pritisian district on the territory of Ukrainian Transcarpathian region.
Having supported separatist movement in Ukrainian Transcarpathian region time and again “Jobbik” party demanded from Hungarian government to support Magyarization of this region. This fact strangely coincides with Russian provocation about creation of Carpathian Ruthenia. Russian propagandists says that Carpathian Ruthenia is ready for armed struggle against Ukraine to become independent. The project remained unrealized due to the lack of any political and economic base for the creation of “Carpathian Ruthenia”. Local population don’t support such ideas. It is likely that demands about creation of Pritisian district have direct connection with “ Carpathian Ruthenia” project.
Ukrainian security services neutralized actions of anti-Ukrainian Hungarians Foundations sponsored by “Jobbik”. So it is obviously that this party will use every opportunity to block Ukraine’s accession to the EU. It combines with Kremlin’s objectives very well.
Ukraine should spend more time to strengthen contacts with Hungarian moderate parties (such as Fidesz) for counteracting destructive activities of “Jobbik”. Also it should find the ways to prevent the escalation of tensions in the Transcarpathian region and inter-state conflicts on this ground.
