According to BBC, the attack had been long-anticipated.

Mushake is a small hillside town which is a rebel stronghold. The market center is mainly occupied by Tutsi cattle farmers. Ground troops are attacking with the use of heavy artillery with the support of two attack helicopter.

UN peacekeepers are not engaged in the fighting but are providing logistic support.

The elected government is committed to flushing out Rwandan Hutu rebels and insists that General Nkunda and is men lay down their weapons.

Currently, at least fifteen-thousand UN peacekeepers are still in the country to secure peace.
