Driverless cars is no more a science fiction.It is possible.As per the reports of the General Motors Corporation executives,cars that drive themselves and even parking at their destination could be ready within a decade.
GM parts suppliers,university engineers and other automakers are working on vehicles that could revolutionise short and long distance travel.The most significant obstacles facing the vehicles could be human rather than tecnical, government regulation, liability laws, privacy concerns and peoples passion for the automobile and the control it gives them.
Much of the technology exists for vehicles to take the wheel, radar based cruise control,motion censors,lane-change warning devices,electronic stability control and satellite based digital mapping etc.And automated vehicles could dramatically improve life on the road, reducing crashes and congestion.
GM plans to use an inexpensive computer chip and an antenna to link vehicles equipped with driverless technologies.The vehicles would be on first use at the Highways and then it is the peoples option to use the driverless vehicles at the local streets.
