It happened just before the Chinese Lunar New Year. A drunken truck driver crashed on a taxi with 5 passengers and one driver. The truck hit the taxi from the top and drove the taxi for about 50 meters and fell on the taxi in the end. No one in the taxi survived, but the truck driver only got a little wound. The alcohol test showed that the alcohol level of the truck driver was 6 fold higher than normal. The victims are all men and are making most of the money for their families. Now the trial is in progress. Today the truck driver kneeled in the court and apologized to the relatives of the victims, but no one accepted his apology. And I won’t accept his apology either. What he did is more severe the manslaughter, because he knew his action would harm the society. I don’t know the law. But if I am the judge, his imprisonment must be longer than manslaughter.
Yes, I don’t know law in China, Hong Kong or any other countries. But I know if someone is caught to drive when drunken, he/she will only be sentenced for less than six months and fined very little money. If I can make the law, I will punish them severely. One year imprisonment and 30% of their property for the first caught, 10 years imprisonment and 100% of their property for the second caught, and 100 years imprisonment and 100% of their property and no chance for commutation. Then no one will be killed by them anymore, because the potential killers are all in the jail.
Indulge the guilty person is killing the innocent. Prevention is more impotent than punishment.
