Durga, an Australian baby, has baffled doctors, after she survived outside of the womb for a full term pregnancy, a medical phenomenon believed to be the world’s first.
After a two-hour delicate caesarean operation, Durga Thangarajah was delivered by Obstetricians at the DarwinPrivateHospital in Australia’s Northern territory on Thursday. Doctors and Obstetricians who helped deliver Durga from her mother’s right overy are baffled at the phenomenon, saying an ovarian pregnancy is one of the rarest variation of ectopic pregnancies and generally have life threatening complications. They have dubbed Durga as a miracle baby. The parents Ravi and Meera Thangarajah, both Sri Lankans, migrated to Australia two decades ago.
Normally, doctors will advice for abortion when they detect an ectobic pregnancy. In the case of Meera Thangarajah, ectopic pregnancy was identified at the later stages.as earlier examinations did not show any abnormality.
Obstetrician Andrew Miller was stunned when he found the baby squeezed into Meera’s right overy. She was lucky that her overy had not got ruptured as the baby grew and stretched the skin. The skin was so thin that could see the baby’s face through the skin.It could have ruptured any moment risking the lives of both mother and the baby.
In the case of baby Durga and her mother Meera, they are luckily alive against all odds and It is the Almighty they have to thank profusely.
