DVD Review – Fast Food Nation
Directed By Richard Linklater
20th Century Fox
Not to be taken as seriously as a PETA video, we do have the grim truth brought to our attention. Preconceived corporate house, prerequisite slaughterhouse, The shenanigans unfold – complete with entrails and are just a few of the insightful glimpses into your local fast food joint.
Greg Kinnear is our main man and the first to get the “Shit-eating grin” wiped off his face. Between the tragedies for the workers escaping from Mexico to land work and enduring accidental dismemberment, we also have the high school kids depositing their phlegm on meat and buns prior to hitting the tray.
I personally, could have done without the border sequences as this not news by any means. Feces in your local take-out burger is news . However, the fine line between fact & fiction will of course, becomes embellished by being dragged through the Hollywood treadmills and slaughterhouses leaving more than a bad taste in ones mouth.
Thank You for Smoking was by far, more entertaining as far as the new wave of whistleblower films. Love and emotion mixed with bone and hooves – don’t make the film better than the book… so to speak.
The DVD extras include commentary, “making of” featurette, photo gallery and the rest are actually pretty entertaining as their animated take on the Matrix, with kid-friendly appeal, will make(vegan) Moms feel comfortable doling out the health-enriched propaganda.
