Dysfunctional Democracy

In all the changes that is happening in the world, from the latest gadgets to science discovery like cloning and the scary global warming or climate change, one thing that human failed to address is the common and abused word “Democracy.” Virtually all countries in the world speak about democracy which they claimed as part of their system of government.

Perhaps we were tricked to believe that democracy is freedom which will guarantee us from oppression and human degradation. But for the sake of argument or intellectual discourse, democracy is another form of human excessiveness and over indulgence to power, wealth and fame.

In the Philippines, democracy completely lost its luster, meaning and purpose since it was introduced by Uncle Sam. Thus, the country has been under dysfunctional democracy ruled by the same class of people from the business oligarchs, elite filthy rich families and the new breed of US and European educated sons and daughters of old and new plunderers.

These chosen few have ruled the Philippines from one generation to another for a long period of time but unfortunately the country and its people remains poor while its Asian neighbors have already improved their lot under their own democratic system of government. Dysfunctional democracy makes the elites to continue their greed and selfish interests and to prevent the country to grow.
