We have all seen ads saying that you can make millions with nothing to pay. But is it really the truth? Can you really make an online living without any investment?
In some ways the internet is very different to real life. Just about anything is free if you know where to look. But there is no such thing as income without investment. In that respect, the internet is exactly the same as the real world. The only things that land on our doorstep unannounced are the lottery and an inheritance from your rich great-aunt.
So when you see the ads claiming that there is no work involved and that their program can make you a lot of money, it’s false. To make money you always need to invest. But that isn’t always cash. The "rich kids" of the internet who haven’t spent a cent have actually spent a lot of time instead. Their investment was in hours, not in dollars. This is good news if you have time to spend but not money. The trick is to use your time productively.
Most of those people who made a lot of money hide their secrets. They rely on you spending a lot of time and effort in their schemes. You take home a few cents and they take home a few dollars. Multiply it by hundreds of people like yourself, and the ringleader is laughing all the way to the bank. So what’s their secret, and if it’s so easy, how come you can’t do it yourself?
Well… you can. But you need to be organised, do a lot of research, and work extremely, extremely hard. Spend some time learning about affiliate programs. You want the biggest ones you can find that offer the most products to users. One of them is Commission Junction. The way it works is you create a web page advertising some of the companies who are partnered to Commission Junction. Your page might be telling people about free gifts, or great value posters, or discounted cameras, with links for people to visit, join or buy from those websites, and when anyone uses your links, joins one of those programs, or buys something from those companies, Commission Junction pay you a portion. Many of the programs pay 5-20 dollars per customer.
You also need the site to be interesting so that people stick around. So you probably need to make it attractive, well designed, and include interesting stories or articles. To get it seen in search engines you need a good domain name and you need Search Optimization Techniques. Then you’re ready to promote.
So you have your page all set up with the bargains you want to offer your visitors. But now you need people to see that site. You need traffic. Again, you can either pay for traffic or you can spend time earning it by joining traffic exchanges. Typically, you need to view one page for every one visitor who sees yours. I’ll be honest here, it will be very slow, because you might need 50,000 page views to get your first sale. That’s a lotta clicking.
At this point you might have guessed the real secret to how those big guys made their money. They’re recruiting people under them in multi-level schemes. They get their own advertising free, because they’re getting you to join the traffic exchanges under them too. Once they get the ball rolling in the early days, they can sit back and the hopefuls like you pay their wages by spending a few dollars to learn their "scheme", which is nothing more than sales and recruiting more people under you to keep your advertising flowing.
So is it worth it? In most of the developed world, it would be cheaper for you to join one of these schemes than to spend months doing all the legwork yourself. The catch is that for every hundred schemes you see advertised, only one is going to deliver what you actually need, and the other ninety-nine just pretend they can. Look into them carefully. The best are the ones where you can join for free to see if it’s any good and then "upgrade" for special features later on. These worthwhile ones also have huge support communities and forums that you should be able to access before you even join up. And if you’re considering spending the money to upgrade, remember that they are not handing you the wealth on a plate. They will be providing you with a step by step guide to earning that money through hard work. The hard work will still be there. If you are prepared to do that hard work, then for some people, it will pay off. So choose the company carefully.
