It has become a fashion these days to eat out. People like to eat out to celebrate an occasion, to entertain guests or simply to get out of the monotony of eating at home. It has become more of a ritual or routine, more a habit than a necessity.
Of course, it is a necessity for people who work out of homes and who travel for long periods. For such people what could be the dangers of eating out?
a) Cooking material may be inadequately and improperly persevered
b) Cooking may not be in the right way
c) Most of the food eaten in eateries is highly fatty to make it more attractive and palatable
d) We do not know the quality of raw materials used. The cheapest and the most discarded vegetables may be used in many hotels
e) Chemical preservatives are added to preserve the food for long periods of time
f) Coloring agents are used to make the food visually more attractive. These may pose a treat to health
g) Meat and vegetables frozen and reheated alternately cause toxic substance to be released from the stored food.
The safe choices when eating out are:-
1) Freshly cooked and well –cooked food should be preferred.
2) Non-greasy preparations should be preferred to fried or oily foods.
3) Vegetarian food is a better bet unless one is sure of the quality of the place.
There is a role special diet.
It is a fad these days to have different types of diets, juice only diet, soup only diet, etc. frankly speaking, these diets are more of a fad. They may give some short-term benefits but it is not generally possible to follow them in our daily routine.
Special diets are also given in cases of certain diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney diseases and obesity. These diets have to be taken under expert supervision. Either a trained dietitian or a doctor has to prescribe the diet, depending upon the individual need.
What are the ideal fats for daily use?
The fats used should be less saturated. The content of Omega 3 fatty acids must be more than the omega 6. Currently this aids the most important factor that is looked for when we make a choice of ideal oil daily use.

a) Olive oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil.

b) Palm oil, lard, butter, ghee.
