Ecotech Institute Students Filled 15 Recycle Bins From Denver’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Route

Ecotech Institute’s St. Patrick’s Day float collected nearly 15 recycle bins full of water bottles, cups, paper, cans, bottles and cardboard, making it a huge hit. It all began with an idea from student Chris Stevens and resulted in a student-made recycling bin to collect all recyclables during the parade, a truck outfitted with solar panels and a wind turbine. A hundred and fifty students, staff and friends helped gather the trash and recycling along the parade route.

Of course, there was a considerable amount of trash that could not be sorted into recyclables, but Stevens and his team made the parade course as green as possible.

“It’s safe to say that we achieved our goal of keeping the parade route clean and green,” said Stevens. “We collected more recycling than I ever expected, and it feels great to know that we did our small part in keeping Denver truly ‘green’ that day.”
