There’s an ongoing investigation in the death of Wille Mayfield after a fight with his room-mate at Spring Gate Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
As reported by WMCtv police were called to Spring Gate Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center Wednesday morning responding to a fight between that took place between two elderly patients, Wille Mayfield and his new room-mate. WREG reports that Mayfield’s daughter, Mary Charm say they told her there was blood on the walls. Mayfield’s daughter also stated they told her her father got into a fight with his room-mate and was dragging the room-mate into the hallway. The staff broke up the fight but in 15 minutes of the altercation, Mayfield died.
Charm had questions. "I don’t know what could have provoked the fight," said Charm. "Somebody should have known that it was getting to this place before it came to this."
In the mean time, the nursing home declined to comment on the altercation. Tennessee law requires the facility to report such circumstances to the Tennessee Health Department. State officials say they are very anxious and awaiting for further details on the incident so they can decide on appropriate action or if they would need to open their own investigation.
Bonny Kinney for Channel 3 news also reports that both men had Alzheimer’s disease.
