Due to electrical snags in water pumps the reservoirs at SSKM and the Medical College are not getting filled to capacity. A big water crisis has hit these two hospitals very badly. Both these hospital are located in Kolkata (in India).
After examining patients in the OPDs and emergency department, the doctors are not getting water to wash their hands. The doctors at these hospitals are also postponing surgeries.
Several toilets in both hospitals have been temporarily closed. The departments of surgery, gynaecology and paediatrics at the Medical College are worst hit. However the situation in SSKM is slightly better.
For the time being some temporary arrangement has been made to bring water from outside but that does not seem to be enough to solve the great water crisis.
Not only the doctors but the patients and visitors at these two hospitals are also bearing the brunt of water crisis.
