Elephants that without Micro-Chips Should not be allowed to Participate in Public Functions after May 31

Domesticated elephants in the Calicut district would be fitted with microchips on May 19 and 20. The elephants would also be given a health check-up and issued health cards on these days.

Training has been given to 69 mahouts by the Forest Department for the purpose under a programme meant for the welfare of elephants and to comply with a government order which says elephants that are not fitted with micro-chips should not be allowed to participate in public functions after May 31. Owners of elephants have been advised to produce the animal for the implant and the health check-up on May 19 and 20.
