Islamabad: Pakistani President and Army Chief Gen. Pervez Musharraf has imposed emergency in the country through issuing a Provisional Constitutional Order which can’t be challenged in the court.
The declaration made after a high meeting in Islamabad which was attended by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and other ministers.
The Constitution of the country was suspended and the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chohadry, who had fought a legal battle against his suspension by Gen. Musharraf and then was reinstated by Supreme Court, removed immediately after the declaration.
It is to be mentioned that this decision has been taken in the light of an impending Supreme Court order, which, many think, may go against the President.
For past few months, it was feared that the government was planning to impose emergency but the lawyers and political parties and the Supreme Court had rejected the rumors and said that the act will be strictly opposed.
Pakistani lawyers, who had won the legal battle of suspension of Chief Justice has announced to start a movement against the emergency.
