Empowerment of women our priority: Chib

Jammu, October 16 (Scoop News) -Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports,  R.S. Chib today laid the foundation stone of New Women Hostel Block in the premises of Government Women’s Polytechnic, Akhnoor Road Jammu being constructed under Skilled Development Mission here today.

 The hostel block would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore

 He also inaugurated the newly constructed one bed staff quarters for the convenience of the supporting staff of the Institution completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 73 lakh.

Spelling out  the programmes and the policy of the J & K Government in the field of Technical Education,   Chib said that imparting of vocational and professional trainings  to women has been  flagged by the government as major activity for their empowerment   .

 He highlighted that the intake capacity has been enhanced from 3500 to 7000 in Polytechnics under the Skill Development Mission. The Government is in process of establishing 18 new Polytechnics at District level and for this purpose 434 new posts have been created to provide adequate staff for better functioning of these   institutions. He said the construction of these Polytechnics has already been started.

Appreciating the work done by the Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Jammu under CDTP and IRG Schemes, besides the regular Diploma courses, the minister appealed the faculty and staff to work with diligence to keep the pace of activities and extend the benefits of the Skill Development Mission to the targeted stake holders.

 Chib informed that an amount of Rs.1.7. crores would be sanctioned  for  the upgradation  of Textile Block, provision for Canteen facilities, construction of double bed rooms staff quarters, installation of High mast lights and Deep boring hand-pump in the college campus.

   Chib said that the sports facilities would also be created in the campus for the students, which will include, courts for  Table Tennis, Volley Ball and Basket ball.

Director Technical Education  Sourab Bhagat, while addressing the gathering highlighted the infrastructural requirement of the Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Jammu. He appreciated the up-keep and maintenance of the Institution and complimented the faculty and staff for rendering services of par excellence to the stake holders. He congratulated the Principal on the inauguration of staff quarters and laying of foundation of Women Hostel in the Institution, which is being constructed by J & K Housing Board at a cost of Rs.1.00 crore. He also requested to the Minister to   look into immediate infrastructural requirements of the Institution.

Er. Gurbachan Singh, Principal, Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Jammu while welcoming chief guest and other dignitaries presented the outline of  the activities being carried out in the Institution for the benefit of the students. He described that the institution is implementing the programme and policies of the Skill Development Mission of J & K Govt. in letter and spirit under the able guidance of the   Minister, Commissioner/ Secretary to Govt. Technical Education& Youth Services and Sports & Director, Technical Education, J & K State.

            The vote of thanks was presented by Er. Neetu Maini, Head of the Department, Electronics & Communication Engg.

 The function was anchored by Er. Naresh Gupta, Lecturer in Electronics & Communication Engg.

 Those present on the occasion included DGM, Housing Board, Jammu, Secretary, J&K State Board of Technical Education, the faculty, staff and the students of the Institution were present.

            Later, the Minister along with Deputy Commissioner Jammu  Sanjeev Verma met with the leaders of All Party Hindu Coordination Committee who are on indefinite hunger strike from the last many days sitting near Press Club.

            The Committee presented a chatter of demands which   include onetime compensation for over aged youth, establishment of Shardha Peeth University in J&K, Passing of temple and shrine Bill in Legislative Assembly, Dialogue with Pakistan for facilitating visit to Shardha Peeth in POK, Probe into multi-crore land scam at temples shrines across the state.

            The Minister gave a patient hearing and assured them that all their genuine demand would be raised at appropriate forum.

            On the assurance of the Minister, the committee calls off their hunger strike and thanked the Minister for assuring them for early redressal of their demands.
