Srinagar, October 23 (Scoop News)- Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Sunday said that the answer to unemployment problem lies in entrepreneurship development and his Government has initiated wide-ranging measures for the development MSME sector in the State.
“While development of skills and enhancement of employability of youth is receiving priority attention the government is striving for creating investment-friendly environment in the State”, he said maintaining that encouragement to the local industrialists and budding entrepreneurs is on focus.
Inspecting a cement plant launched in private sector by a local entrepreneur at Khrew, the Chief Minister appreciated the young entrepreneur for leading the way for local investors and said that this tendency in young educated people is good omen for industrialization in the State.
Omar Abdullah said that package of incentives and concessions available to entrepreneurs would be further strengthened to encourage launch of feasible ventures by the local investors in the State. He said Jammu and Kashmir possesses rich potential for investment in agriculture, horticulture, food processing, power generation, software technology, floriculture, health, education, tourism and similar other sectors. He asked the local investors to move ahead in launching ventures in PPP mode with the government and in joint ventures with outside investors.
The Chief Minister said that the SKEPWY initiative launched in the State is aimed at creating MSME environment in the State by providing financial, logistic and technical support to the educated youth to take to self livelihood earning ventures and give boost to the economy at one hand and generate employment opportunities for them and their brethren on the other.
“Though government is striving for providing employment in the government sector to youth to the degree possible yet the unemployment crisis needs to be tackled by various other measures and industrialization and entrepreneurship development is the right initiative in this direction”, he said.
In a PowerPoint presentation on the occasion, the young owner and Director of the plant stated that the project has been launched with an investment over Rs. 240 crores and is first of its kind in the private sector launched by a local entrepreneur. He gave details of various units of the plant and explained the scientific mechanism put in place in the plant for pollution control and safety of the functionaries. He said more than 150 truck-loads of cement is being produced at the plant daily.
The Chief Minister also inspected the progress on the construction of Pampore-Khrew road being executed by ERA. He also interacted with people enroute and at Khrew, and heard their development demands patiently. He gave on spot directions for initiating a proposal for the construction of a tube well in the area.
