A group of EU Lawmakers had visited squatter colonies in Metro Manila recently for their cross country observations and study of third world countries that have a sizable numbers of poor communities. Their arrival in the Philippines was greeted with gratitude from the poor residents of squatters living within Metro Manila. The EU Lawmakers were taken aback and express sympathy to the squalid conditions of all the squatters they have visited. One lawmaker even commented that leaving the poor communities with inadequate shelters, lack of foods, education and other support services from the government is considered a crime in rich European countries. The lawmakers promised to the neglected souls of squatter colonies that they will make representations to their respective governments to help chart lasting and able programs that would ease the burden of poverty affecting the large community of squatters in Metro Manila. In this time of crisis affecting the majority of the Filipinos, maybe the EU lawmakers are perfunctorily doing their best to defeat poverty outside of Europe.
