So far, it has been known that kidnappings have been quite popular in northern Mexico. Also, a lot of violence between warring drug cartels has taken place in the border towns of northern Mexico. In this regard, it does not seem anti-kidnapping experts are immune from getting kidnapped themselves.
One recent example would be the abduction of Felix Batista, a senior consultant with ASI Global. The firm is headquartered in Houston, Texas. They are tasked with helping people with security. So far, Batista has had a lot of training and experience in dealing with kidnappings. He was a former US Army intelligence officer.
Batista is an expert that could list many things on a business resume. Regardless of his experience, he got kidnapped. Ironically, Batista was involved in seminars taking police and civilians how to prevent kidnappings. Unfortunately, Batista ended up getting kidnapped himself.
The lesson in this story is: No matter how much experience, training, and expertise you have, you are by no means immune from getting kidnapped.
