Up until recently, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do in terms of a career or employment or that type of thing. I graduated high school a few years ago and then started working full time at a local supermarket because I didn’t get the ENTER score I needed at the time and wasn’t sure what else to do. The job wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t even close to what I wanted to study or one day work in.
I’d always had an interest in event management but after falling short of the course requirements necessary to enrol in that subject at uni, I’ll admit I was a little dejected. Eventually I decided enough was enough – all my friends were getting close to completing their degrees or qualifications and I decided that I should, too. I didn’t want to enrol in traditional universities or TAFE colleges, and as I’m quite a distance from any campus in the city I figured an online qualification would be perfect. That’s when I found Acquire Learning, after reading an article in The Australian.
Acquire Learning offered exactly what I was looking for, and it was all in one place within their website. What they do is provide a hub for heaps of different learning institutions and course providers, and you can then browse through all the different course available across the whole country. Business, administration, management, nursing and health, hair and beauty, the works. They had plenty of event management courses for me to choose from, so after reading through the requirements and selecting the one I thought was best for me, I was able to enrol in the units and actually study them online from my own home. Acquire Learning even gave me my own dedicated Career Advisor to keep in touch with me and help me out with anything along the way, so I’m never alone or wondering where I can get advice.
I’m about halfway through my first unit now, and things are going really great. All the units and subjects in my event management diploma are really interesting, and it’s really fantastic to finally be studying something I’m passionate about. I’ve been learning all about coordinating events, planning exhibitions, and organising venues, and I can’t tell you how great it is to be really applying myself for the first time in years.
For me, the best part is the ability to study online. It means I can still work as much as I need to, and social commitments don’t fall by the wayside, either. A lot of the course providers with Acquire Learning offer VET-FEE Help and government funded positions, too, so it’s worthwhile enquiring if you’re concerned about paying for the whole qualification up front.
Acquire Learning have really gone the extra mile to ensure that my education and future prospects are taken care of. I’m looking forward to finishing my diploma and using those skills to make a name for myself in the real world once I graduate. If you want to study but you’re not sure where to start, If you are not in Australia, Acquire Learning UK has also just launched.
