Ex -bank staff in police net in Lagos
By Emmanuel Udom
For Wunmi Oyediran, an ex-marketing staff of a new generation bank in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, life is indeed cruel, slippery and unkind to him. He thought he could eat his cake and have it at the same time. But, regrettably, the banker has met dead end, at least for now.
For quite sometimes, Oyediran has been giving dare-devil armed robbers around Lagos information on the movement of cash by customers from his bank. Off course, police sources said he has been rewarded by the robbers for his efforts, even as he is being paid about N55, 000 every month as a marketer for the bank.
However, nemesis caught up with him recently when a customer of the bank walked into the Marina branch of the bank in Lagos Island to withdraw $75,000 form his domiciliary account. This was around July this year. Based on information allegedly leaked to the robbers by the banker, the customer, whose name is not revealed by the police was stopped at gunpoint and robbed of the money.
Manko Umar, Lagos state police commissioner said during parade of the suspected robbers caught by anti- robbery police officers from SARS in Ikeja that acting on the report from the customer to the police, the banker was traced to the Alausa branch of the bank, arrested and drilled, where he confessed that he was actually the informant to the robbery gang.
The build-up to this messy stage for the banker began when one of the robbers was arrested in an undisclosed hotel with free women and after interrogations confessed that the banker is their informant.
Other suspected members of the gang caught with the banker are Adewale Ogunbiyi, Richard Imoh, while others were said to be on the run. The Lagos police chief insisted that the suspects could be charged to court when the police completes it investigations
