Ex-minister urges parties to contest polls

SIALKOT: Former minister of industries Muhammad Ajmal Cheema has said that all the political parties should participate in the upcoming elections.

"The country is passing through a critical juncture and those talking about boycott of the polls are not well wishers of the country," he said, adding that continuation of political process was a must for strengthening of democracy and development of the country.

The politics of agitation and confrontation has damaged the country and democratic process to a great extent. He said after doffing off the uniform by the President there was no justification with the opposition parties to boycott the elections.

The ex-minister said after thorough deliberations on the issue of provincial autonomy with representatives of all the political parties, concrete steps should be taken to meet the aspirations of the provinces.

Two POs killed in encounter: As many as two notorious proclaimed offenders (POs) were killed in two hours long encounter with police in village Roypur Friday evening.

DPO Muhammad Ameen told the newsmen that five armed accused were looting the people there by setting up a ‘Daaku Naaka’ in light rainy and dark cloudy weather.

On a tip-off a patrolling police party from Saddar police station reached there. On seeing the police, the accused opened fire on the police. As the police retaliated, two accused were killed on the spot while their three unknown managed to escape from the scene.

He said that the deceased POs were identified as Ejaz alias Jujji and Muhammad Sarwar. They were wanted by the police more than 30 different heinous natured cases.

Police also seized a big quantity of the automatic arms from their custody. The dead bodies were shifted to the Government Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital for autopsy. Saddar police have started investigation after registering a case, in this regard.
