Excellent response from the Indian academic and scientific community has been garnered by ‘Excellence on Tour’ Road Show, hence making it extremely successful. It is held at Science City grounds in Kolkata from 22nd March, and has seen more than 4000 visitors already. Organized by the German House for Research and Innovation also known as Deutsches Wissenschafts- und InnovationsHaus (DWIH) in association with the Consulate General of Federal Republic of Germany in Kolkata and the Goethe Institut (Max Mueller Bhavan), the event will continue till 28th March 2014.
German House for Research and Innovation – New Delhi
The German House of Research and Innovation – New Delhi was created in 2012 as an initiative of the German Federal Foreign Office to promote the internationalization of academic research and bridge the gap between the two countries- India and Germany.
It encompasses 15 German organizations constituting of research funding bodies, research centers, development and commercial institutions and representatives of German universities. It plays the crucial role of a ‘one-stop shop’ for information on German science, research and innovation for students, researchers, employment seekers, partner institutions and commercially oriented societies in India.
Eminent Jury Gracing the Event
The renowned jury members for the Science Slam comprised of Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kolkata, Mr. Rainer Schmiedchen; Vice-President of the German Research Foundation (DFG), Prof. Dr. Dorothea Wagner; Head of Division International Co-operation (DFG), Dr. Jorg Schneider; Head of Division International Co-operation (DFG) and Coordinator of the DWIH and Director DFG India office in New Delhi, Dr. Alexander P Hansen. The show was moderated by RJ Mir of Kolkata.
Science Slam
Science Slam was the ideal platform where young scientists and scholars presented their topics of research in diverse fields. Ms. Charnita Arora emerged the winner and was awarded an all-inclusive research stay in Germany for 3 months. She proudly received a gift cheque of 6000€ as well.
Her topic was: ‘All the world is a stage’: Performing likability on Fame/ Facebook. She meticulously explained the psychological and social impact of Facebook ‘likes’ on human mind and behaviour. She is extremely excited to go back to Germany to pursue her academic project.
Excellence on Tour: A brief outline–
The DWIH New Delhi “Excellence on Tour” Road Show will illustrate the Indo-German research collaboration and provide an exciting platform to bridge the distance between both the countries. This event will also give opportunities for higher education and ways to facilitate cooperation in research, science, technology and innovation.
This unique multi-city Road Show brings together academics, researchers, scientists and aspiring students from India and Germany to present their cutting-edge research work, enhance knowledge and forge career opportunities in Germany.
