Karnataka state is having an assembly elections in three phases during May,2008. Political parties primarily in the fray are Congress I, BJP, JD(S) and BSP.While BSP as per the recent statement issued by the BSP Supremo and the UP Chief Minister, Ms.Mayavati, her party hopes to bag at least 40 seats in the assembly elections in Karnataka. Whereas, Congress I and BJP hopes to capture power in Karnataka on their own and J.D (S) also fancies its own chances to capture power in Karnataka.
Recently, an exit poll survey has been conducted in Karnataka by an expert team from Chennai LoyolaCollege which has announced its results today. The results of the exit poll indicates the emergence of only a hung assembly in Karnataka, predicting around 75 to 80 seats to BJP, around 55 seats to the Congress I and 25 seats to the JD (S) and some 20 seats remain undecided.
Though the result of the exit poll cannot be taken for granted, the emergence of a hung assembly seems to be a certainty. The result of the exit polls is also an eye opener to the main political parties contesting in the assembly election, to tighten their screws in the constituencies where they are seemingly weak. However, a last minute shift or tilt in favour of a particular political party, either Congress I or BJP is also not ruled out.
The people of Karnataka had already suffered much from the previous hung assembly and had seen all sorts of political gimmicks, horse trading, bargaining etc. They must have learnt their lessons by this time and will give their clear cut verdict in favour a single political party. Let us hope, wait and see.
