Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia:
A week ago several sacks containing exotic animals were seized by officers from the Wildlife Department. They were seized from a house in Putrajaya, the nation’s administrative capital.
Yesterday two men were charged in the Putrajaya Magisterate Court for possessing and torturing rare animals.
The animals included five types of protected species namely;
a black leopard, clouded monitor lizards, wild deer, tapir and several pythons.
The pythons, seventy in number, were taped at the mouth with masking tape.
The men known as Khor Lian Hup and Tan Yong Hua were granted bail of RM10,000 each with one surety. The trial date was set for december 15th 2008.
The animals were destined for the local restaurants and were worth RM100,000.
