Pollution is when water, air or land becomes dirty. Pollution is the presence of harmful substance in the environment. It harms our natural resources and damages our plant.
Pollution can be in the form of chemical substances or energy such as noise, heat or light. It may be of different types, affecting several areas in the environment. Air pollution, water pollution, land pollution and noise pollution can affect our lives.
We all contribute to pollution in some way or the other.
The air is polluted by clouds of smoke and harmful gasses. The presence of dust, fumes, gas smoke or vapor can cause herm and affect the health of humans. It can cause damage to plants and animals.
Human dependence on environment
There are various ways in which plants and animals depend upon each other. Human beings are the most development beings in the animal kingdom. They also depend upon their environment for most of their needs.
Soil, water, forests, fish are all examples on natural resources that form an important part of our environment. However, due to growth in population and development process man has over-used these resources which have resulted in the degradation of our natural environment. Some of the ways in which man has exploited the environment are as follows:-
1) Deforestation – forests play an important role in regulating the water cycle and give us, fresh air. They also provide home to a large number of animals. Cutting down forests to obtain wood or convent that area into agricultural fields creates an imbalance in nature.
2) Deletion of soil –nutrients- use of too many fertilizers and pesticides changes the nature of soil. It causes pollution of soil making it unfit for cultivation. Loss of vegetation increases soil erosion by wind and water and causes loss of top soil rich in nutrients.
3) Wastage and pollution of water- man does not use water judiciously and wastes it in many ways. Think of some daily activities that waste water? People often dump waste in water bodies like rivers and lakes causing pollution of water.
There is a shortage of clean drinking water so we should use it carefully.
4) Pollution of air- various poisonous gases are added to the atmosphere from the exhausts of vehicles and factories. They polluted the air and cause various respiratory diseases.
*Factories discharge their harmful toxic chemicals polluting the air water.
The best way to make sure that the environment remains safe and need healthy is by preventing pollution.
Every one must make a conscious effort to protect and care for the environment.
