Kathmandu Nepal: Nepal Police Arrested 711 people on Monday including three women from the capital as per their campaign to control incidents of theft, looting, and criminal activities. In this current drive against fighting crime the Nepal police have listed long hair, tattoos and piercing as physical traits of CRIMINALS. Anyone having long hair, tattoos and piercing would be treated then and there with harshness and brutality.
“It is completely illogical and absurd for a prestigious organization like Nepal police to do something like this. People do have their interest and rights and it’s their rights to look the way they want just by having a limited thinking of making assumption Nepal police cannot breach the social conduct,” said prakash Saha
The campaign was recently launched by the newly appointed IGP Kuber Singh Rana which has been hugely criticized.
Aakash prasai said, “It is not fair to arrest or to cut our hair, we have our rights to look the way we want, it cannot be compromised due to someone’s weak mentality. It’s dictatorship. How can people be judged by their outer presence or the way they look?”
Likewise various online activists have launched events to protest against the drive of Nepal police.
Similarly an event, “TOGETHER AGAINST POLICE ATROCITY AND HIGH HANDEDNESS” has been created for awarness and to fight back against police attrcocities.
The facebook campaigners write, Calling it a campaign to curb theft, robbery and hooliganism, Metropolitan Police Range on Monday rounded up 711 young people, mostly males, sporting long hair and wearing ear studs or ear rings from different parts of the city. Their detailed identities were recorded along with finger prints and photos, police said. “Some of these youth were handed over to their guardians and police had their hair cut. They were warned not to repeat such get-up and hair-do in future and released in the evening. The campaign was launched at 11:00 am for three hours on the streets. This event is more of a game plan event. Although we have fixed the date tentatively for the 1st of march – we shall only march on ahead when we know for sure that we have media support, human rights activists and some spirited media personalities. This event maybe turned into a forum to pick each other’s brains and to know for sure that there will be NUMBERS, for in NUMBERS we shall find strength. We need to be sure that this campaign works!
Foremost and formally the event initiates 1421 people in the going list and 9000 in the invitees list.
