The start of yuletide season is fast approaching and that the people are again busy preparing for the holidays. Everyone seems to be in a hurry planning of what they could give to their family this coming yuletide. And because the Philippines is known for being traditional merrymakers every time Christendom celebrates the birth of Christ, goods associated with Christmas makes huge profit all over the country.
The month of September is considered the start of a long celebration because the people believe that the last four months of the year are attached to each other. In this time of the year, the people are agog of everything and so the businesses thrive. But more often than not, business establishments are in cahoots with big exporters/smugglers in which they sold fake and low quality goods in the market. The products being sold are lower in prices but are quality defective. The masses, who cannot afford the high end products, are usually the big customers of these fake and below standard goods.
The cunning traders or businessmen don’t mind the low quality of their goods as long as they accumulate big profit. While the poor customer will have to suffer the effect of the defective made goods. Yearly, there are hundreds of cases of house fires because of fake and defective appliances, Christmas lights and other electronic gadgets. On foods, most of these are likewise imported from the Asian giant, and they are laced with toxic chemicals like formaldehyde. And as of this writing, 37 students were poisoned after consuming candies made in the neighboring Asian giant. Their products can be seen all over the Philippines, and no sign of abating. US, Japan and European products whose quality is unquestionable, are losing billions of dollars because of imitation from the giant.
So, the people will have to contend with this trend and expect more fake and defective goods flooding the market until Christmas time and beyond. Do we have the guts to stop this kind of infringement or injustice? Don’t buy them.
