Pacquiao is scheduled to face British boxer Ricky Hatton on May 2, 2009 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vega Nevada for a guaranteed $12 million dollar purse.
Pacquiao became the lightweight champion of the world when he won over David Diaz early last year for the lightweight crown.
Last December 6, 2008, Pacquiao fought Oscar de la Hoya in their ‘Dream Match’ held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight which many boxing fans labeled as a the ‘great mismatch’ because of Oscar de la Hoya’s superiority in height, reach and other physical attributes, ended in a TKO on the eighth round when Oscar refused to face Pacquiao in the ninth round.
Before his win over Oscar de la Hoya, Pacquiao tangled and won over some of the world’s famous boxers including Juan Manuel Marquez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales and David Diaz. Later, Pacquiao was pronounced the best pound-for-pound boxer of the year by Ring Magazine.
Pacquiao is scheduled to travel to England and the USA starting this weekend to help in the promotional campaign for his forthcoming fight with Ricky Hatton of England on
