The leader of the U.S.-based Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan, fiercely condemned the United States and the coalition’s attack on Libya and during an interview on Chicago radio station WVON rhetorically asked President Barack Obama, "Who the hell do you think you are?"
Farrakhan also warned Obama not to allow those "wicked demons to move you in a direction that will absolutely ruin your future with your people in Africa…."
Even more disappointing was that announcement that leaders from Russia, China and India are condemning the U.S., French, and British coalition and urging President Obama to immediately cease all military mission in Libya. Russian politicians are reportedly divided on the enforcement of the United Nations Libyan resolution including of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin who said the military operation reminded him of a "medieval call to crusade".
Surprisingly, Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev blasted Putin for using "crusade" in reference to a Muslim country like Libya.
Brazilian leaders — who hosted a visit by President Barack Obama and his family this past weekend — and leaders from India, China and Germany also refused not to vote for the U.N. resolution, which was supported by 10 countries to use all ‘necessary measures’ to prevent Col. Moamar Khadhafi’s armed forces from killing or injuring innocent civilians.
"India calls upon all parties to abjure violence and the use of threat and force to resolve the differences. I think the need of the hour is cessation of armed conflict," Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna told the Times of India.
Despite Germany’s abstention during the U.N. vote, Chancellor Angela Merkel said she hoped for success of the military mission in Libya.
In Cairo, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who was on a trip to Egypt and Tunisia, on Monday said that the [dictators and despots] in the Middle East and North Africa should take the Libyan conflict and the uprising in Egypt and Yemen as a wake up call.
In an interview with AP, the Secretary General called on nations to speak out when a wind of change was apparently sweeping the region.
"The international community, while we closely follow the situation, has a responsibility to help those people, so that leaders could hear clearly and sincerely the voices of the people, their aspirations," he added.
Meanwhile, the U.N. Security Council has agreed to convene another meeting on March 24 to discuss Libya amid worldwide criticism over the military operation against Khadhafi’s regime after the U.N. resolution was passed to allow use of force in the Islamic nation.
