Sometimes simply shedding a few pounds can change your life. With a brand new silhouette, you might even land the man or woman of your dreams.
43-year-old Manuel Uribe of Monterrey, Mexico, found a new life – and a new wife – when he did just that. He went on a diet, lost some weight, and four years ago caught the eye of his lady love Claudia Solis. The two married in a lavish 400-guest wedding this past week.
Losing a few pounds to attract a spouse is not so remarkable and hardly newsworthy. Unless you consider that Manuel, once called the world’s fattest man, lost 550 pounds. He marched (well, he was carried) to the altar at a svelte 680 pounds. Because he still isn’t able to walk, a flatbed truck carried him in his custom-made bed decorated with a canopy, flowers, and gold-trimmed bows, to the nuptials. Decked out in a white silk shirt with a sheet wrapped around his legs, the two said their “I-dos” in a civil ceremony.
Instead of leading the guests in a traditional wedding dance, the two swayed to the music. "I have a wife and will form a new family and live a happy life," the former mechanic said.
The wedding, closed to most media, will be aired by the Discovery Channel in a documentary on Uribe’s life.
