Federer Leaps Into History

Roger Federer became the most successful male Grand Slam champion ever when he beat the resurgent Andy Roddick  in a five  set marathon final 5-7 .7-6,(8/6)7-6(7-5), 3-6,16-14,to clinch his 6th Wimbledon title his 15th overall to go past Pete Samprass’ record of 14 Grand Slam hauls

But it was  not  easy .The  Swiss was given the scare of his life by the fantastic Andy Roddick who just refused to cede an inch throughout the entire match . In fact it was the American who was the better player of the two throughout the  major portion of the match , only  loosing his serve once in the heartbreaking ,final game

In an extraordinary conclusion the last set was the was the longest ever played in men’s Wimbledon final.

By beating Roddick Federer also reclaimed his much coveted number 1 slot which he had lost to Nadal last year. Incidentally Nadal had to pull out of the tournament because of a hamstring injury .

Federe,27 ,now has 6 Wimbledon titles  five US opens, three Australian Open and one French Open,15 in overall

A visibly emotional Federer acknowledged the fact that Roddick played a marvellous game and he feels sorry for him .He also stated that though he has never played for records,
