José Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, reportedly met with English FA officials to commence negotiations between the FA and the former Chelsea manager. Although this does not make the deal sealed. According to The Sun, Mourinho will wait and see if the men at Soho Square support his project and the conditions in which he would take over the Three Lions.
According to reports, Mourinho is looking for a two and a half-year that would have him in charge of the national team until the 2010 World Cup. The FA plan to offer the Portuguese coach an offer of £25 million (US$50.7 million) to take over the national team.
In the past 24 hours it was revealed that Mourinho became the top candidate to eventually replace Frank Rijkaard at Barcelona. This last minute rumor might put his hiring in doubt as he is familiar with the Catalan club having been there during the mid-90’s.
The former Porto boss is at the top of the list to take over the job left vacant by Steve McClaren after he was sacked after failing to qualify the English to next summer’s Euro 2008.
