National Hispanic Heritage Month is a month-long observation that traces its roots to President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. While it started out as a week-long observation, it was expanded to a month in 1989. The month is a time of celebration of the culture and traditions of those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, and the Spanish-speaking nations in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 3.3 million Hispanic-owned businesses around the country, with $78.7 million in yearly sales being attributed to those owned by women (compared to $359 million in sales for male-owned Hispanic businesses). While it may come with a side of challenges, there are Hispanic women who are blazing trails and leaving a record of business success. Two of those women are Tina Aldatz and Margarita Floris, the co-owners of Savvy Travelers, a company that specializes in designer beauty wipes.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the Hispanic business community,” explains expert traveler Tina Aldatz, chief executive officer of travel wellness company Savvy Travelers. “We have not only blazed a trail, but we are making history with the success that we are having. People have embraced our products, which is the ultimate sign of success in business.”
Tina has overcome hurdles and challenges to go on to be a successful entrepreneur. A decade ago, she had started the successful company Foot Petals, which was named one of the 500 fastest growing companies in America. She was recently honored as the “Mexican American Opportunity Foundation Woman of the Year” for 2016. She was also the keynote speaker for the September 2016 NAHREP Convention & Latin Music Festival at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles. She is also the former chairwoman of the Hispanic 100 Foundation. Adding to her list of accolades, in 2015, Tina was given Comerica Bank’s Women’s Business Award, named as “Woman of Entrepreneurship,” and she was honored to become the National Latina Business Women Association’s (NLBWA) “Business Woman of the Year” in 2011.
Margarita was the vice president of Foot Petals, has served as a mentor for the Hispanic 100, and currently serves as the president of Savvy Travelers. The company Savvy Travelers is a certified Hispanic-owned business through the Women/Minority Business Enterprise. The company has grown in leaps and bounds since starting its line of designer beauty wipes, which include Klean Upz moisturizing hand and body wipes, Klean Offz sanitizing surface wipes, Take Offz facial wipes, No Sweat antiperspirant wipes, In the Klear lens and screen cleaner wipes, and the Speak Eazy dentist-approved mouth and teeth wipes. The wipes are conveniently packaged for traveling, they are environmentally friendly, and certified cruelty free. They even offer a subscription service, called “Wipeaholics,” where people will receive a monthly stash of these items delivered right to their mailbox.
“We are honored to be a great example of a successful Hispanic-owned business in America,” states Margarita Floris, co-founder and president of Savvy Travelers. “We work hard, create products that the public wants, and are determined to succeed. That’s always going to be a winning combination.”
