In our home, on Christmas morning, there is nothing tastier to start things off, than a flavourful cup of Egg Nog to sip on while sitting around the Christmas tree, as we open our gifts.
Egg Nog is also a festive drink one can serve at a Christmas party surrounded by friends, family, and guests, so here is a simple, easy, recipe for a delicious Egg Nog.
Ingredients:
6 Large Eggs (separated)
1/2 Cup of fine granulated white sugar, or, icing sugar
1/4 Teaspoon of salt
2 Teaspoons of Vanilla
2 Cups of Brandy or, Irish Cream Liqueur
1-1/2 Cups Homogenized milk
Nutmeg (to taste)
Preparation:In a mixing bowl, beat together your egg yolks, 1/4 cup of sugar, salt, and vanilla until it is thick, and yellow. Add in nutmeg (to taste) then slowly beat in the brandy or Irish Cream, and the milk. Chill this in the fridge for at least 24 hours.
Before Serving beat together the egg whites and the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar until you achieve soft foamy peaks and then slowly gently fold this into the egg nog mixture.
Serve each cup with just a dash of nutmeg or maybe a dash of cinnamon, and to top it off, how about a peppermint candy cane.
This simple recipe will create a 16 cup serving. To create this for a party setting, simply double or triple up the recipe depending on the number of folks you wish t serve it to.
Note: **If you want to serve this to children as a non-alcoholic drink simply heat up the alcohol being used to cook off the alcohol thus allowing the integrity of the flavour to remain.
This should be chilled down again so as not to curdle the egg nog.**
This little trick will permit the children to have a tasty egg nog without the benefit of the alcohol.
Here is another little trick. If you cannot afford to buy the alcohol involved, but still want that special flavor you can usually find either brandy or rum essence in the grocery store in the baking section.
