In their hurry to counter the emergence of nearby Tanjong Manis as a future ‘boom’ area the leaders of Sarikei launched another round of FIESTA PINEAPPLE. This fruit is synonym with the town Sarikei.
Sarikei is one and half hours express boat ride from Daro. With a population of around fifty thousand it has lost its lustre since the official launch of Tanjong Manis as a deep water port for central Sarawak.
The Chinese Community will exhibit their traditiional dance and songs. Ther will be sales and competitions of various categories. The official launch will be on the twenty fourth of November and the Junior Minister for agriculture, Datuk David Teng, will officiate.
The actual fiesta itself will start a day earlier. Among the many activities planned are the fruit eating competition, cooking competition, dancing competition and singing competition. The highlight of the fiesta will be the Pineapple queen night. Just who might that be, well, come and see for yourself.
