Things are hotting up in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the two states in South India that share a common heritage and culture.
And once again the issue is over the sharing of water.
A river (Cauvery) which has its source in Karnataka flows across the border to Tamil Nadu. Now, how the Government of Tamil Nadu decides to use its allotted share of water should be of no concern to Karnataka, but the local politicians have realized that this is a potential vote catching issue, especially since the state elections is a couple of weeks away, and are creating an unnecessary situation that could turn nasty at any moment.
In the past many decades of Indian independence, innocent people have lost their lives and property over the same water sharing issue.
If the politicians in Karnataka really cared about water, they would have initiated water harvesting methods in their homes, government offices and made it compulsory for every building.
Alas, saving water is the last thing that you will find anyone with wealth (politicians) doing.
Small time politicians are using this emotive issue to make their presence felt. This is typical of the narrow minded political brain that is governing this land. People who will not look beyond the selfish motives of gaining power at any cost.
God save our country.
