Srinagar, May 28 (Scoop News) – Media Education Research Center, MERC Kashmir University in collaboration with Yakjah, a reconciliation and development network, organized a film screening event today in the auditorium of the department.
The film screening event in which films on various issues pertaining to media, society and other themes were screened was chaired by Ashima kaul, founder Director Yakjah, a Dehli based organization.
The purpose of the event was to understand various issues which the society faces at large and media in particular as well as to provide a platform for expression to youth.
In his welcome address HOD MERC, Dr. Shahid Rasool, said, “It is an effort to help students to understand cinematic craft, to understand the medium and to discuss issues that are being raised, so that they become well equipped to deal with the challenges in the future.” . Dr Rasool asked the young media trainees to leram media and film appreciation as it sharpens ones intellect to understand the world of films.
Director YAKJAH , , Ashima Kaul, in her address described it as a platform for youth to discuss issues and to provide exposure to them. It is to bridge the gap between people with different shades of opinion or sects.

The event was followed by a discussion in which students and faculty members of the department participated. The event was coordinated by Dr Sabiya Faculty member MERC. Nasir Mirza senior faculty member was present on the occasion.
