Raghuvaran, one of the most versatile actors of South Indian cinema passed away early Wed-nesday morning at a private hospital in Chennai. The actor, who was ailing for the last few days, was in hospital for treatment of an abscess on the leg. He was discharged but reportedly developed complications early Wednesday morning. He was admitted to Mehta hospital where he was declared dead.
The 49-year-old actor started his career as a hero with an off-beat, award-winning film Ezhavadhu Manidhan, directed by ace filmmaker Hariharan. Later, he turned character artiste and villain and made an impact with stylised acting and voice modulation.
His more popular films include Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, Bhasha, Mudhalvan, Mugavari, Run, and more recently Sivapadhikaram, Bheema, Marudhamalai, Sivaji and Sila Nerangalil, which was his last released film. Raghuvaran acted with all the leading actors of the industry including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Vijay and Vikram in more than 80 films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. He married actress Rohini and had a son, but the marriage was short-lived and ended in divorce.
All the big names in the Tamil film industry turned up at his house to pay homage to the late actor including Vijayakanth, Sarath Kumar, Ajith, Vijay, Mani Rathnam with wife Suhasini, Urvasi, Sathyaraj, Prabhu Deva and Kushboo. “It is an irreparable loss for the Tamil film industry,” actor Sarath Kumar said. “Raghuvaran was an actor with a style of his own. He was a very fine human being too.” Raghuvaran will be cremated on Wednesday evening
