The Filmfare awards function is held to Award or recognize contributions to Indian mainstream cinema. The Award is given in categories of Acting , Film making, Direction, Music composition, Cinematography, Screen play writing, Singing and Best Song.
Veteran Lyricist and Film maker Gulzar holds the record for winning maximum number of felicitations. He was first nominated in the best song category for ‘tere bina zindagi se’ (Aandhi 1975), lyricist Indeewar’s song ‘dil aisa kisi ne mera’(Amanush 1975) won the ‘Best song’ award.
Post 1975 Gulzar saab has been nominated in the song category almost every successive year. Jahaan pe savera ho(Basera),dil hum hum kare (Rudali), Chappa-chappa charkha (Maachis), Aaja Mahiya (Fiza),Beedi (Omkara), Tere bina (Guru), Tu hi meri dost hai (Yuvraaj) and two nominations in a single year for Kaminey’s Dhan tan tan’ and Kaminey numbers.
Gulzar’s venture ‘Mausam’s very popular song ‘dil dhundhtaa hai’ also lost to Sahir Ludhianvi’s Kabhi kabhi mere dil (Kabhi Kabhi ). Gulzar ‘s nominations for Kinara’s Naam gum jaayega and Gharonda’s metropolitan number ‘do diwaane saher mein’ proved lucky, He won his first ‘Filmfare award’ in the ‘song’ category for ‘do diwaane saher mein’. In 1980 Gulzaar was once again nominted for Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Golmaal number.
Golmaal’s evergreen song ‘Aanewala pal jaane wala hai’ won the Award. The gold run continued in following year as well the veteran lyricist won for ‘Hazaar rahen (Thodi si bewafaii), gulazaar won ‘Tujhse naraaz nahi (Masoom 1984),Mera kuch samaan (Ijaazat 1989), Yara sili sili (Lekin 1992), Chal Chaiyan chaiyan (Dil se 1999), Sathiya Teri hansi (Saathiya 2003), Kajrare (Bunty Babli 2006) and now in the current year, 2011 has just won for ‘Dil to Bachcha hai ji’ (Ishqiya 2010).
Gulzar luminous career began in the company of greats like Vimal Roy and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. He first recorded song is for Vimal roy’s Bandini and till now has TEN Filmfare awards in the category.
