Finding Comfort, Right Under Your Nose

1888 Press Release – For the past six years, Florian Rabeau and Katia Apalategui have been working side by side to create a purfume of the scent of a missed loved one, be it human or animal. Having a perfume of a missed loved one can add much comfort to ones life in a time of need.

We often take our sense of smell in our day-to-day lives for granted, and think we really rely on our eyes and ears, but the sense of smell is vitally important. Mother and son team, Katia Apalategui and Florian Rabeau, want to reproduce the scent of a missed loved one, be it human or animal.

For the past six years, Florian Rabeau and Katia Apalategui have been working side by side to make this happen. For more than 3 years, they have worked with a specialized laboratory, and have developed the technology required to accurately recreate a loved one’s smell in fragrance form. Although humans rely less now on smell for survival a huge importance is still placed on smell today for taste enjoyment and attracting a partner through use of perfumes.

Having a perfume of a missed loved one can add much comfort to ones life in a time of need. Certain scents trigger particular emotions and memories.A smell can bring on a flood of memories, influence people’s moods and even affect their work performance. Because the olfactory bulb is part of the brain’s limbic system, an area so closely associated with memory and feeling it’s sometimes called the “emotional brain,” smell can call up memories and powerful responses almost instantaneously.

The sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more so than any of our other senses. Those with full olfactory function may be able to think of smells that evoke particular memories. In addition to being the sense most closely linked to memory, smell is also highly emotive.

Through the innovative use of crowdfunding on Indiegogo, this mother and son team are seeking support for their campaign here.
