The programme was organized by J&K Voluntary Health Association in collaboration with Divisional Administration Kashmir, Civil Defence Organization and. S.P. Hr. Sec. School Srinagar. The volunteers were sensitized about the Tobacco Control Act and rules related to prohibition of smoking at public places. Dr. Abdul Majeed, Associate Professor SKIMS made a Power Point presentation highlighting ill-effects of smoking and various dangers caused to humans by tobacco products. Shabir Ahmad Lone, Food Inspector Drug Control Organization gave details of the anti-tobacco laws for prohibition of tobacco at Public Places and educational institutions. He informed that Government has empowered Sarpanchs and Panchs for imposing fine if anyone is found smiking in a public place. Executive Director J&KVHA, A.M.Mir gave details about the programme and appreciated the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon for raising the level of awareness about the hazards of cigarettes and other tobacco products. Famous radio artist Sabir Ayub read out a poem on ill-effects of tobacco, which was highly appreciated by the particpants. Later, a rally was taken out by the Civil Defence volunteers from SP Higher Secondary School upto Civil Defence Control Room. The programme was also attended by Senior Programme Officer, AK Wani, OSD with Div Com Kashmir Aamir Ali, Deputy Controller Civil Defence Rafiq Ahmed, Dy. SP Traffic, Devinder Singh, Dr Shafia, Dr Zarina, Ghulam Mohiuddin and Shabir Ahmed.
