According to some local firefighters, Giuliani’s recollections on the attacks on New York City on September 11, 2001 along with promises of fighting terrorism were both a myth and an insult.
In North Orange Blossom Trail, a firefighters’ union was the first stop in a series of rallies on Tuesday. Members of the union have urged voters not to support Rudy Giuliani for United States President.
This rally was organized by both the International Association of Firefighters and family members of the September 11 victims. Giuliani has been accused of being a fraud when he claims to be the leader in the wake of the terrorist attacks. He is also accused of being a liar for claiming to have protected firefighters during the excavation of ground zero.
The group also said that Giuliani’s weaved a myth on the campaign trail when he claimed to prepared New York City in the wave of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Jim Riches, a retired deputy fire chief lost his firefighter son on September 11, 2001.
“The terrorists killed my son, but Rudy Giuliani gave us bad respirators, which caused many first responders to get sick and die. We had to fish human remains out of the garbage dump, and also he had failures in communication in everything else that did lead to unnecessary deaths … down there of civilians and firemen because his administration failed to heed the warnings of ’93,” Richards said at the rally.
So far, Giuliani has been endorsed by a national organization of state police during a visit to Walt Disney World. But the firefighter group said the number reason Giuliani got the endorsement is that he’s the best candidate to improve national security.
A spokesman for Giuliani said that the group is simply an arm of the Democratic Party.
