Crickets Darkest Day.
Terror struck at the heart of cricket in Pakistan today when a gang of civillians opened fire on the Sri Lankan Cricket team in Liberty Square while they were on their way to the stadium. 6 Pakistani Policemen lost their wives while several players have been injured. The players were later moved to a safe location from the Qaddafi stadium via helicopters. The attack comes under the recent light of security concerns in Pakistan.
The Punjab Government believes the attacks are belong to the same category as the Mumbai attacks and there is nothing much the Government could have done about it. An even greater disaster was averted by the heroics of the bus driver who drove the players to safety. In the midst of all the chaos Chris Broad, a match referee and a former England International, showed much heroism by shielding another umpire while all the bullets were being fired. The future of cricket in Pakistan is uncertain at the moment. The Sri Lankan Cricket team has been flown back to Sri Lanka and the test match has been abandoned.
