It has been reported by an article on News.com.au that a first ever womb transplant has been performed on Derya Sert, a twenty-two-year- old woman, at the Akdeniz University Hospital in Turkey’s southern province of Antalya by doctor Mustafa Uanl; and that an embryo has also been successfully transplanted too.
A newborn birth is being planned for a delivery via C-section; and then the uterus will be removed subsequently to avoid a possible risk of rejection, according to the report on News.com.au. Dr. Unal reported that the young woman is doing well and that she is being described as a "medical miracle;" and that she is the first woman in the world to have received and had a successful womb transplanted from a dead donor in August 2011.
In my opinion this is a "real miracle" for those women who have been unable to successfully have a baby…what a wonderful discovery for these women! I know there are many women throughout the world who are praying this transplant will be successful.
I’m a firm believer that God is constantly granting medical professionals the intelligence and knowledge required to successfully transplant human organs from deceased people to different areas of the body to help those in need of a new body part transplant.
The words in the Bible as stated here in the below verses allow us to realize God is always working and looking for answers to people’s requirements in life. In Isaiah 30:19 it says, "At the voice of thy cry; when He shall hear it, He will answer thee;" and in Hebrews 11:6 it says, "He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He will reward them that diligently seek him."
In these two verses God tells us to depend on His word and what He has spoken will come to pass in our lives; and when we go to God bowing before Him in prayer and letting Him know our pains and sufferings that He listens and He finds a way to respond to His people’s needs.
It was reported that this groundbreaking news about Sert’s pregnancy is sure to reawaken the hopes of thousands of childless women throughout the world; and this will permit women the ability to seek to bear and have their own babies.
The report stated that Sert was born without a uterus, and they also stated that she is not alone because there is one in every 5,000 women throughout the world without a uterus also. Dr. Unal stated, "They waited 18 months before implanting the embryo to guarantee the foreign organ was properly functional."
The report indicated the woman has also started to menstruate since the transplant and that this is an important signal the womb is functional, according to her doctors.
Experts warned though that the pregnancy carries several health risks to the baby as well as to the patient. This includes preterm delivery and birth defects because of the use of immune-suppressive drugs.
