First Wedding after the Earthquake

Aquila, the Italian town recently struck by an earthquake, celebrates its first wedding after the tragedy.

Saturday 18th April saw the first wedding conducted in Aquila after the Italian town was destroyed by an earthquake on April 6. The couple who achieved this unique distinction were Massimo Marinelli, a 33 year old architect and Maria Chiara Aio, a 32 year old employee of Transcom. The civil ceremony was conducted in the playground of Collodi nursery school in via Aldo Moro which has recently been turned into an administrative and co-ordination centre. The wedding was attended by representatives from the fire and police services who were invited as a mark of appreciation for all their work during the crisis.

The couple, who did not wish the ceremony to be recorded by press cameras gave only a brief statement to awaiting journalists.
