It seems that despite everything that has went on in regards to the raid on the ranch which is part of the FLDS sect; the members are not going down without a fight. Willie Jessop has decided to fight back. This time, it seems that the FLDS will attempt to take this battle all the way to the White House.
For those that have not kept up with this event, the FLDS is the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is a Mormon group; but, it has no ties with mainstream Mormonism. The FLDS broke apart from Mormonism in order to keep the practice of polygamy alive. Warren Jeffs is the current leader of the FLDS. Right now, Jeffs is serving time behind bars.
Right now, 400+ children are in state custody awaiting hearings. The state of Texas is charged with the task of keeping those children from going through a culture shock. But, culture shock is a pale understatement. The more suitable term would be cultural Armageddon.
Some of the men of the FLDS sect were interviewed. They had no idea that it was illegal to marry someone under the age of 18.
Also, the Texas branch of the ACLU had weighed in on the case. They want to see if the fundamental rights of the children have been violated in any way or means.
Now, Willing Jessop, an elder of the FLDS sent a letter to US President George W. Bush saying that the raid on the ranch was a terrorist act. It said: “Terrorist acts can be committed by federal, local, and private entities that are operating under the guise of ‘protecting the public.’”
The letter said that the raid was an act of terrorism.
“We are talking about homes being broken into without search warrants, unarmed fathers being forced to the ground with M16 rifles pointed at their heads, screaming children being torn from the arms of their grief-stricken mothers – all upon American soil and within your own home state of Texas,” the letter adds.
In the letter, Jessop also compared it to the raid on the compound of David Koresh, leader of the Branch Dividian in Waco, Texas, back in 1993.
Still, no criminal charges have been filed against the members of the FLDS. But, this is one event in history that will not be going away at any given time. If this keeps up, this could possibly be a possible topic in the presidential election race.
