Flying Window Seat could be Riskier

Researchers from Lieden University Medical Centre suggest that passengers in a window seat of a plane have a two-fold increase in the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a deadly blood clot. For obese passengers, this is likely to increase by six times. However, this risk does not appear to exist for middle and aisle seat passengers.

A DVT clot could cause death when it travels through the person’s bloodstream to the lungs by causing pulmonary embolism.

A plausible explanation could be, in  window seat, passengers are more cramped. It is also said that they fall asleep easily in such seats.

However, nobody is sure about the practical utility of this study except it can be informative. It is impossible to elimiate the window seats in a plane.
