Food: Bangladeshi Culture

The staple across the country is rice and various kinds of lentil, which is locally known as dal and fish. There is also a saying which goes "Mach-e-Bhat-e-Bangali". Fish and rice make a Bengali. Beef is a very important cuisine in Bangladesh, which is mostly used in big feasts called dawat. Some famous or well known Bangladeshi dishes are biriyani, parata etc, which are also given in dawat as specialities. Bangladesh is famous for different types of sweets, which is given as desert. Some famous and really tasting sweets are pitha (different kinds), kalo jam, gulab jamun, halua, pheerni, shondesh, etc.
