It is official, the presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain or Arizona and Democratic frontrunners Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and Senator Hillary Clinton will appear on the April 21 episode of World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) Monday Night Raw. This would look to be an interesting move as the April 22 Democratic primary is due to take place on the next day.
Obama and Clinton have been pushing the health care platform in preparation. There is a high chance there will possibly be two major issues: guns and green jobs. Guns are obvious because there are almost one million licensed hunters and at least 250,000 registered members of the NRA in Pennsylvania. On the other side of the coin, Philadelphia has a high number of gun-related murders. For the candidates, the issue of guns would be a sharp double-edged sword.
However, both candidates avoided that issue during last week’s debate on ABC. Since the day of the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania takes place on the same day as Earth Day, there is the possibility of the issue of green jobs that could emerge. It would be fitting since the contest does take place on Earth Day.
In the case of tonight’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, all three candidates will be making taped appearances. This may seem surprising to most; but, it is not the first time that the WWE has mingled in presidential politics. WWE CEO Linda McMahon, the wife of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon headed up the “Smackdown Your Vote” drive which focuses on voter registration.
This was back in 2000. Neither Democratic nominee Al Gore nor Republican nominee George W. Bush participated. They were invited to come onto one of the WWE events and engage in an arm wrestling match. But, they declined.
So far, Clinton has released her script. Obama and McCain have not yet. But, this could be interesting for both Clinton and Obama as there are millions of viewers that do tune into such shows as WWE Monday Night Raw.
So far, Hillary Clinton in preparation as said she can be called “Hill-Rod.”
On a personal note, it may be more effective if they appeared in the UFC than the WWE. Over the last few years, mixed martial arts fighting has slowly started to overshadow professional wrestling.
Anyway, tonight, you all can call Clinton “Hill-Rod.”
